Open Lecture “Learning to Learn”

On May 14, a team of Exupery International School teachers will talk on the topic of «Learning to Learn».
Hayde Summa, learning support teacher, Anastasija Metlova, school psychologist, Rex Summa, educational expert and middle school math teacher and Alice Ford, primary school teacher will be talking about different learning strategies for children.

During the conversation, EIS teachers will talk about following topics:

  • Students becoming aware of their own learning process and needs (learning strategies)
  • Identifying resources around them (self-management)
  • Overcoming learning obstacles (autonomy, self-discipline, collaboration, motivation, confidence)
  • Assimilating new knowledge and skills in a variety of contexts
  • Asking for support (ownership of one's own learning)
  • How fundamental learning skills acquisition in literacy and math is necessary for further learning (access, gain, process, assimilate)

Hayde, Alice, Anastasija and Rex all together got 51 year of teaching experience in different schools around the world. Don't miss an oppotunity to meet international educational experts and ask your questions!

Hayde Summa is a learning support teacher at EIS. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Special Education and two Minor Degrees in Bilingual Education and English as a Second Language through Central Washington University. She also holds a Master Degree in Education through Walden University. Last year, she was awarded the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification by United States Department of Education. Hayde has 14 years of teaching experience working with students with academic learning, organizational and social/emotional disabilities and as a reading specialist.

Alice Ford teaches Grade 1 as well as Geography to Grades 7 and 8 at Exupery International School. She has her B.A. in Environmental Studies and Geography from Middlebury College and her M.S.Ed. from Bank Street College of Education. She is certified in General Childhood Education (New York State). Previous to Exupery, Alice taught in inclusion classrooms with English-language learners in the Dominican Republic, the United States, and China, to students in grades 1-6. Alice is excited to spend her 9th year of teaching with the students and families of Exupery. Watch the video interview with Alice

Anastasija Metlova is the school psychologist at EIS. She recieved a Bachelor Degree in Psychology through International Higher School of Practical Psychology and Masters Degree in Educational Psychology through University of Latvia. Anastasija has 13 years of teaching experience and psychological practice working with children of all age groups. She also worked as a psychologist in Cyprus and London with families from different cultures.

Rex Summa is an educational expert and middle school math teacher at Exupery International School. He earned a Bachelor Degree in Economics/Social Studies with a Minor in Mathematics from Western Washington University, and a Master Degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Idaho. He has 15 years experiene teaching middle and high school students in the USA and abroad from remedial algebra to calculus. His major interest of study is teaching algebra for understanding to ensure student success at the college level. Watch the video interview with Rex
