Exupery International School has been granted approval by the International Baccalaureate to offer its students the Primary Years Programme. Only three schools in Latvia are authorized to offer the IB PYP programme.
The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is one of the world’s most innovative curriculum frameworks. It has been designed specifically to help nurture and develop young students from ages 3 to 12 as caring, creative and active participants in the journey of learning. At Exupery we offer PYP programme for students from grade 1 to grade 5.
Informed by research into how students learn, how educators teach, and the principles of effective assessment, the PYP places an emphasis on inquiry-based learning. Rather than teachers simply telling students what they need to know and understand, this approach requires students to ask their own questions, and to investigate, explore and share their ideas.
By offering the PYP, Exupery International School (EIS), will encourage its students to study local and global issues, to find the links between transdisciplinary themes and concepts, and to take responsibility for their own learning and for the environment. Research indicates that PYP students outperform non-IB students in mathematics, reading and writing.
Head of School, Roy White stated that, “In offering such a curriculum framework, we will encourage our students to become not only imaginative writers and confident communicators, but also thoughtful, reflective citizens who can work collaboratively. With this transformative curriculum, our students will be able to continually adapt to an ever-changing world, and develop as creative, caring and resilient thinkers.”
He added that, “With its inquiry-based, transdisciplinary framework our students will learn to think for themselves, to take responsibility for their learning, and to explore local and global issues in real-life contexts.”
As an IB World School and a member of the Council of International Schools, EIS is fully dedicated to demonstrating its commitment to develop and improve. With the support of its parents, staff and the Board of the school, EIS will soon open a new purpose-built secondary campus and begin the process of becoming authorized to offer the IB Diploma Programme for its senior students.
The International Baccalaureate, offers four high quality international education programmes to more than one million students in more than 146 countries. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and founded in 1968, the IB offers education for students from age 3 to 19, which focuses on teaching students to think critically and independently. IB programmes are continually and rigorously reviewed and developed by academics and educators. The results of IB programmes are recognized by TOP-100 world universities.*
