EIS "HeadsUp!"

Dear EIS Community,

October has been a month of celebration, discovery, and togetherness — filled with stories that remind us why learning at EIS goes far beyond the classroom walls. From poetry readings and international visitors to creative festivals and community initiatives, our campus has been alive with color, curiosity, and heart!

Here are some of this month’s highlights that made us pause, smile, and feel proud to be part of the Exupéry story. Let’s share these moments. Enjoy the video!

Verse by Verse: a Celebration of Language and Heart

Poetry speaks in many voices — and this October, it spoke in eleven languages! During our annual Multilingual Poetry Celebration, students and teachers shared 49 poems in English, Latvian, Armenian, Russian, French, Arabic, Afrikaans, Italian, Hindi, Serbian, Spanish, and even Māori.

Each performance was a moment of courage — an act of standing up and letting language become music. While some chose the works of classical and contemporary authors, others recited their own verses, turning the stage into a space for honesty, creativity, and emotion.

A heartfelt thank-you to all participants, and to the Language Department, led by Mrs. Fleur Serrière, for curating such a thoughtful and moving event.

Celebrating Teachers — the Heart of EIS

Every day at EIS is a celebration of teachers — but this one felt truly special.

October 5th, celebrated worldwide as Teachers’ Day, offered our students yet another wonderful opportunity to express their gratitude and make the day memorable for everyone.

The morning began with baked treats prepared by parents, followed by student messages of appreciation and a surprise — photos from our teachers’ own school days.

The celebration continued with the Music Festival, during which students and teachers shared the stage, and The Salad band, featuring our Head of School on guitar, made the crowd go wild!

In Primary, a poetry assembly took place, where younger learners shared poems they love, and spoke about what those words mean to them.

This fantastic day reminded us how much our community values its teachers — and how their care and dedication shape the life of our school.

Debating for Change: EIS Student Council Elections

At the beginning of the month, Middle and High School students also gathered for the final round of Student Council debates, where candidates for President and Vice President presented their ideas and plans for the year ahead.

After the candidates' confident speeches, the votes were cast — and the results are in. Congratulations to Ieva and Luca, our new Student Council President and Vice President!
Their leadership and initiative will help strengthen student voice and bring new ideas to life at EIS.

And so, we walked in pink — for a cause that truly matters.

This month, our IB Diploma students joined peers from other international schools for Pinkathon 2025 — a charity walk across Saliena in support of the Pink Train Foundation, which provides physiotherapy and psychological care for women undergoing breast cancer treatment.

Held as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the event became a powerful reminder of how awareness, compassion, and action go hand in hand. According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), one in twenty women worldwide will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime — a figure projected to rise sharply by 2050.

That’s why initiatives like Pinkathon matter. Walking side by side, our students, parents, and teachers proved that even the smallest steps can make a meaningful difference — raising awareness, fostering empathy, and turning solidarity into lasting change.

A Morning of Music and Joy: Three-Time Grammy Nominee Brady Rymer at EIS

We had the privilege of welcoming Brady Rymer, a three-time Grammy-nominated American singer-songwriter and one of the most beloved voices in family music, to our campus for a very special concert.

For over 25 years, Brady has been creating energetic, heartfelt rock ’n’ roll for children and families — music that celebrates joy, kindness, and togetherness. During his performance, our youngest students sang, danced, and laughed, filling the hall with the brightest energy.

It was a truly unforgettable event — one that reminded us how music can connect hearts, spark happiness, and make learning feel like pure joy.
Une Rencontre Inspirante — The French Ambassador at Exupery International School
Last week, EIS had the honour of welcoming the Ambassador of France, Mr. Manuel Lafont Rapnouil, together with Mr. Éric Sirven and Ms. Claire-Élise Hubert from the French Institute of Latvia.

It was not only a wonderful opportunity to show our guests around the campus (with the help of our students, of course!) but also a chance to see our learners engage in a thoughtful conversation about diplomacy, culture, and the ambassador’s profession.

We’re truly grateful for this visit — for Mr. Rapnouil’s openness and for his recognition of our school’s dedication to education and international cooperation. Merci beaucoup!
Designing Spaces That Inspire: 40 Educators Visit EIS
EIS welcomed educators from more than 15 institutions across Latvia as part of the national seminar “Jaunā publiskā telpa: arhitektūra, interjers un pilsētvides dizains klātienē.”

Organized together with ARHIS Arhitekti, HAGBERG Training Centre, and the Latvian National Centre for Culture, the seminar explored how thoughtful architecture shapes creativity and well-being in learning environments.

As one of the featured locations, we showcased our award-winning school and boarding complex — a project by SIA 8 A.M. architects, recognized with the Latvian Builders Association Annual Award, third place in the “Sustainability in Architecture, Construction, and Design” competition (2021), and a nomination for the EU Mies van der Rohe Award.

We’re proud that our campus continues to inspire and to serve as a living example of how design can elevate education — creating spaces where curiosity and connection thrive every day.
