EIS "HeadsUp!"

Dear EIS Community,

As spring unfolds, so does life across our school — full of energy, ideas, and heartwarming moments that stay with us. With a range of international events and our already well-established school traditions, these past weeks have once again shown what makes EIS what it is: people, curiosity, and a shared sense of purpose.

Here are some of the highlights from March and April.

World Scholar’s Cup Riga Round

For the third year in a row, World Scholar's Cup returned to Exupery International School, this time bringing together scholars from Latvia, Lithuania, the United Kingdom, and Sweden for two exciting days of debate, collaborative writing, the Scholar’s Challenge, and the Scholar’s Bowl. We were also delighted to welcome Daniel Berdichevsky, the program’s founder and “Alpaca-in-Chief,” whose presence made these two days especially memorable.

Our students achieved excellent results, earning numerous gold and silver medals across both the Junior and Senior divisions. Among the highlights were Debate Champion titles in both divisions, gold medals in the Scholar’s Bowl, Writing Champion titles, and several subject Challenge medals across areas such as Art, Literature, Music, and Social Studies, as well as recognition among the Champion Scholars.

A massive round of applause to Norah and Alice from Grade 6; Maija, Rodislavs, Maxim, Alesha, and Stefan from Grade 8; Dāvids and Ieva from Grade 11; and Luca from Grade 12 for their proactive involvement and outstanding representation of Exupery International School.

We thank the World Scholar’s Cup team and hope to continue this wonderful tradition in the years to come.
EIS Sports Day – Our Favorite Energy Boost!
So many different but equally engaging activities were happening across the school that day: volleyball, relay races, frisbee, chess, basketball, table tennis, and even football video games on a big screen. Every corner of the school had its own vibe and rhythm, allowing each team to fully immerse themselves in the moment.

But what stood out the most was the atmosphere — enthusiastic, supportive, and full of the lively EIS spirit. This day was organized by our fantastic teachers, and we truly appreciate the effort, care, and initiative behind it. Thank you for creating a space where everyone could take part, support one another, and enjoy being together.

And to all our participants — your energy made it what it was. We couldn’t be prouder!

Celebrating the Power of Reading
In the last week of March, the sound of turning pages felt more present than ever at EIS — as we celebrated one of our most beloved traditions: Book Days.

Lunchtime readings drew both teachers and students in, allowing everyone to become a storyteller. Then, Book Kahoot quizzes brought quick thinking, laughter, and of course friendly competition that makes learning feel truly sparkling.

But the true center of the week was Buddy Reading. Middle and High School students reading to Primary learners. It was a beautiful example not just of sharing a story, but of how strong our community bond is across all divisions and age groups.

Throughout three days, a Book Swap was also available to everyone. Books arrived from home and left in new hands. It was fantastic to see this process — stories travelling, finding new readers, continuing their journey.

Excellence at the National Level: A Remarkable EIS Student Achievement!

We are proud to share an outstanding academic achievement — our G8 student Maija has been awarded a III Degree Diploma (III pakāpe) in the Latvian State Olympiad in English.

To give context, this is not a regional competition. Maija competed at the national level alongside some of the strongest students from across Latvia.

Importantly, a pakāpe is not simply a “place,” but a distinction awarded only to students who meet a defined standard of excellence. This places Maija among the top-performing students in the country in English.

Congratulations to Maija on this well-deserved recognition, and a heartfelt thank you to our entire teaching team — at EIS, every teacher is, in many ways, a language teacher. Special thanks to Maija’s English teacher, Ms Elīna Vestmane.

Spring Celebration — Our Style!
Just before the spring break, we had a wonderful opportunity to welcome spring with a special event fully organized by our Student Council.

Alongside classic egg decorating, egg fighting and rolling championships, as well as themed riddles, our Middle and High School students took part in something truly unique — becoming Egg Guardians. Yes, you heard that right.

Each participant received a personal “egg passport” along with an individual prompt. Some eggs spent the day as EIS students; others became travelers, and some even took on superhero roles. The only rule? Keep your egg safe and intact until the end of the day.

And of course, no celebration is complete without a sweet ending. At the close of the event, sweet prizes found their owners, rewarding creativity, care, and a good sense of humor.

A big thank you to our Student Council for the fantastic ideas and the energy behind bringing them to life — and to everyone who took part.

Annual International Day in Primary School

Our second annual International Day became a real journey — one that brought together cultures, traditions, and stories from across the globe.

With special “passports” in hand, families travelled from South Korea and Colombia to Morocco, Madagascar, New Zealand, and Bermuda — all within the walls of the EIS gym, guided by our incredible crew of teachers and students.

At each stop, there were presentations, creative activities, and small discoveries about each country that made learning feel natural — just as we promise in our school’s mission. Behind it all was real academic work: students researching their topics, selecting and organizing information, designing their own interactive elements — from quizzes and Kahoots to visual materials — and developing both written and spoken communication through their presentations.

Thank you to our students, teachers, and families for making this day so special!
The Fox Den Project
Inspired by the award-winning U.S. TV show Shark Tank, and just as intense at times, our second Fox Den brought together our Grade 11 IB Business Management students and a panel of judges — the “Foxes” — from the EIS parent community.

Working in teams, students developed their own school merchandise ideas and presented them to the panel. Parents joined not only as judges, but also as mentors — and each team was matched with an investor based on their skills and experience.

Before pitching, each team carried out market research within the school community, using surveys and interviews to test their ideas. They then refined their concepts and presented them. Every team left with constructive feedback, support, and a clear next step.
The value of this project lies in the process. Students must figure things out as they go — what works, what doesn’t, how to adjust, and how to explain their thinking to others. In practice, it becomes a direct way of learning how to make business decisions and stand behind them.

What’s next? Once students finalize and order their merchandise, the products will be available for purchase via the EmpowerEd Foundation website, as well as during in-school sales days. This gives students the opportunity to explore both e-commerce and in-person sales.

All profits will be donated to charity.

A huge thank you to our students, Ms. Līga Piļkēviča, and our “Foxes” for making this experience possible. Let’s make business work!
A Student-Organized Table Tennis Tournament
Did you know that table tennis is a big part of daily life at EIS? During breaks and lunch, the tables are always full — and new players keep joining in.

Recently, this turned into a school-wide tournament, organized as a CAS project by Grade 11 students Adelija and Arina. Students from both Middle and High School took part.

“We’re at the tables all the time, so it just made sense to turn it into a tournament. We wanted others to join, play, and make it more exciting — and yes, there was something to compete for too,” Adelija shares.
Winners received prizes from MyFitness, Protein Intake, Molberts saldējums, Coffee STOP, Mr. Fox, and Brain Games LV. With this level of enthusiasm, it may only be a matter of time before the tournament grows even further.

A big thank you to the organizers, all participants, and our generous sponsors for making this happen.

The Success of the first Baltic University Fair

On Tuesday, April 21, in collaboration with the International School of Riga and International School of Latvia, we hosted the largest university fair in the region, welcoming over 60 universities from 23 countries, including Australia, Canada, Belgium, Ireland, the UK, the US, the Netherlands, China, and more.

Our Grade 10 and 11 students had the opportunity to engage directly with university representatives — asking questions firsthand, exploring study options, and gaining a clearer understanding of what different institutions offer. From detailed program insights to campus life and admissions pathways, these conversations helped students navigate their next steps with greater confidence.

Among the participating institutions were École Polytechnique, Bocconi University, Aalto University, NYU Abu Dhabi, TalTech, the University of Edinburgh, the University of Sydney, the University of St Andrews, Charles University Prague, and many others.

We thank our partners, colleagues, and all participating universities for making this experience possible. Special thanks to our college counselor, Ms. Daria Brodnikovskaya, for organizing and coordinating the event in collaboration with the counselors from the International School of Latvia and the International School of Riga.

It was a meaningful and insightful experience for our students, families, and the wider EIS community. We look forward to making this fair a lasting tradition.
Inside the IB DP Visual Arts Exhibition
At Exupery International School, Art is an integral part of the IB Diploma Programme — a space where ideas take shape, and personal perspectives find their voice.

Over the past two years, our Grade 12 students have transformed initial concepts into fully developed outcomes. Exploring themes such as identity, memory, emotion, and society, each journey led to something distinct. In the final stage, all projects come together in a large and deeply personal exhibition — a powerful culmination of the process. This year, the focus was “Materiality between Reality and Interpretation,” inviting visitors to reflect on how meaning is shaped through form, texture, and perception.

Spanning a wide range of genres and mediums — from sculpture, architecture, and fashion to painting and mixed techniques — the exhibition reveals both diversity and depth, with every piece expressing a clear and individual perspective.

A sincere thank you to our Grade 12 artists for their creativity and courage, and to our IB Visual Arts Teacher, Ms. Zane Balode, for her guidance and support throughout this journey.

EIS Teacher Development Conference “Teaching Smarter in a Tech-Rich World”

On 25 April 2026, Exupery International School brought together around 100 educators for a dynamic day of learning, reflection, and exchange.

The conference focused on a powerful idea: looking at both sides of technology in education — its opportunities and its challenges. From AI in the classroom to academic integrity and student engagement, sessions explored practical ways to use tech thoughtfully while keeping the human element at the center.

With inspiring keynotes, hands-on discussions, and an engaging panel, the event created a space not just for new ideas, but for honest conversations about the future of teaching. We’re proud of our educators for leading inspiring deep-dive sessions, and grateful to our guest speakers, Mr. Andrey Odintsov and Ms. Evija Mirke, for their valuable insights.

Thank you to everyone who joined us — until next time!
In January, we also hosted our first Alumni Question & Answer Session — a unique gathering that brought together current Grade 10 students and EIS graduates for an open and meaningful exchange.

Ke Li, currently studying Mathematics at Pace University (USA); Giorgia, pursuing a dual degree at The New School (USA) with studies at Eugene Lang College and Parsons School of Design; and Isabella, studying Psychology and Sociology at the University of Brighton (UK), shared insights from their respective academic paths and university experiences.

The alumni reflected on their time in the IB Diploma Programme, offering practical guidance on time management, maintaining perspective, and balancing academic demands during the final years of school. They also spoke candidly about the university application process and shared advice they wish they had known themselves.

We are sincerely grateful to our alumni for their openness and for the thoughtful support they extend to current EIS students.

This event marked the beginning of our alumni programme — an important step in strengthening long-term connections within the EIS community. We look forward to creating further opportunities for dialogue, mentorship, and shared experience.
Looking Ahead
While these past weeks have been full, we continue to move forward.

This is an important time, as our Grade 12 students are now sitting their IB exams — a key milestone in their journey. At the same time, across the school, projects continue to take shape; bold ideas turn into action, and new opportunities are already on the horizon.

There is more to come — and we’re looking forward to what’s next, together.
